ST. JOSEPH’S CHAPEL AT ST. IGNATIUS CHURCH

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA

We were approached by the Church to design a daily mass altar at St Joseph’s Chapel, with the challenge that all pieces needed to be sturdy and bolted to the floor. Honoring the historic grand church with it’s beautiful ornate walls and frescoes, the design needed to be strong yet feel light and minimal to create an intimate space for devotion. We chose industrial-inspired materials to form the designed elements. The custom glass and antique bronze altar have a cross-shaped base with candle holders that extend off the outer legs. A gold leaf cross with two vertical and one horizontal blade is supported by a Jerusalem limestone boulder. Work completed at BraytonHughes Design Studios.
